1. abstruss => abs(intensive : 강조) + trus(thrust : 깊이 찔러넣다) + s => 완전히 깊숙히 있는 => 심오한

(syn) esoteric, arcane, recondite, obscure, enigmatic, complicated, metaphysical
(ant) simple, direct, straightforward, obvious

extrude 축출하다	extrusion 축출
intrude 침입, 강요하다	intrusion 침입
obtrude 강제, 강요하다	obtrusive 억지로 시키는
protrude 불쑥 돌출하다	protrusive 내민, 돌출한

For example

 I thought twice before enrolling in Quantum Physics, thingking it was a mysterious field perhaps beyond my understanding. It turned out to be not as abstruss as I had thought.

 - think twice : 망설이다, 주저하다, 재고하다
 - enroll in : 등록하다
 - quantum Physics : 양자 물리학
 - mysterious : 신비한, 원인 불명의
 - beyod my understanding(head) : 이해가 안돼는

2. avocation => a(away : 멀리) + voc(call : 부르다, 소리내다) + ation => 하늘의 부르심인 천직과 멀리 떨어진 => 부업, 취미

For example

 My job at the bank is only that-a job. You know what I mean? It's just a way to earn money to support my family, and my avocation-skydiving! It's an expensive hobby, but an excellent way to spend free time.

3. aberration => ab(away : 멀리) + err(wander : 돌아다니다) + ation => 정도에서 멀리 돌아다니다 => 일탈, 탈선

errant 잘못된, 나쁜, 돌아다니는

For example

 Peering through the huge telescope, Dr. Kwon saw nothing out of the ordinary. Then suddenly he noticed a strange aberration in the moon's glow. "How very queer" he said to himself.

 - peer : 자세히 보다, 응시하다, 동료
 - out of the ordinary : 이상한, 보통이 아닌, 예외적인
 - glow : (은은한) 불빛, (기쁨, 만족감을 동반한 은근한) 감정
 - say to oneself : 혼잣말하다
 - queer = weird, enigmatic

4. abortive => ab(away : 멀리) + ort(to arise : 발생하다) => 발생하는 것과 멀리 떨어진 => 실패한, 낙태한

(syn) unfruitful, unproductive, failed, miscarried, vain, unprofitable, futile, idle

For example

 Rescuers attempted to raise the sunken ship near Wi Do again this morning to no avail, making this the thrid abortive attempt. Captain Cho blamed the failures on a shortage of proper equipment.

 - rescuer : 구조자
 - raise : 끌어올리다, 임금 인상
 - sunken : 가라앉은, 침몰된
 - to no avail : 보람없이, 헛되이

5. abrasive => ab(intensive : 강조) + ras(to scrape : 문질러 벗기다) + ive => (성질을) 긁다 => 신경을 거슬르는

(syn) irritating, annoying, nasty, cutting, unpleasant, hurtful, caustic, destructive

erase 지워 없애다	razor 면도칼, 면도하다	rase / raze 완전히 파괴하다
abrade 문질러 없애다	abrasion 마손 부분
abrasive 연마제, 거친, 닮아 없애는
rash 뾰루지, 경솔한	rascal 악당(=rogue)

For example

 Bob was our best programmer. Unfortunately, he was also an insensitive, inconsiderate man. His abrasive personality offended even the most patient of us, so I had to fire him.

 - insensitive : 둔감한, 무감각한
 - inconsiderate : (남의 감정, 권리 등에 대한) 배려가 없는, 헤아림이 없는, 분별이 없는
 - offend : 성나게 하다, 불쾌하게 하다
 - fire : 해고하다

*. 안좋은 내용일 때 들어가는 접두어

 - de : 비열한, 질이 낮은

 - per : 부정한, 정직하지 못한      ex). perjury 위증

 - ob : 내 마음과 다르게, 억지로   ex). obstacle 장애물
